Sunnemo Ecovillage

Sunnemo Farm was bought by Johan in September of 2017 with the vision of creating a self-sufficient eco village where people can meet and settle. The farm is located close to Grässjön in Sunnemo, about an hour north of Karlstad in Sweden. 

At first, the farm consisted of a red house and a large barn. With time, more buildings like the café, a workshop, garage, sauna, greenhouses, a tree house and a few tiny houses have been built as well. 67 hectares of land also belongs to the property, which is divided on open fields and forest. 

 

In September of 2022, the doors opened to the garden café, a project on the farm to create a meeting place for people in the village and also a way to create income for the farm. It’s a cosy small café and lunch restaurant which we are really happy to run! 

Next to the café there is a large permaculture garden where almost all of the vegetables eaten during the year by the community grows. Much of what is produced is also used in the restaurant and sold in our little “farm store” in the café.

There is always a project happening on the farm. This year, animals have been added, since it is one of the long term projects to become more self-sufficient on meat. Currently, we have five cows, 20 sheep and chickens. Lots of other exciting projects are on the horizon, and we are always happy to share and answer any questions!
